MTV reviews Bobby's Snooki From 'Jersey Shore'

Snooki From 'Jersey Shore' Gets The Business On 'Saturday Night Live'

We've talked a lot about the shortcomings of this season of "Saturday Night Live," but this past weekend's show was as funny and provocative as the series was at its peak. It was helped along by host James Franco, who has experience with comedy and improvisation. But the writing on Saturday night (December 19) was also top-notch, with a delightfully deranged digital short, the return of Andy Samberg's Mark Wahlberg impression and the funniest "Weekend Update" in ages, thanks mostly to Bobby Moynihan's turn as Snooki from "Jersey Shore."

As Snooki, Moynihan discussed "Jersey Shore" with "Weekend Update" host Seth Meyers. He was dressed in a terrible poof wig, was covered in orange make-up and was exposing his chest hair for the duration of the interview, which made for a very funny physical gag. But the jokes were great too, including the incredible kicker, which saw Snooki suggest that Meyers call her "Garfield" because she's orange and loves lasagna. The segment also featured a cameo by the Situation (played by Bill Hader), who showed off his "back abs" in another surreal moment.

They say that you're not really famous until you've been spoofed on "Saturday Night Live," which means that Snooki has finally arrived. Perhaps her new reality show "Snookin' For Love" (which she pitched to Conan O'Brien on "The Tonight Show" last week) is just around the corner.

The skit was aired on 10.04.2008

These are from Bobby's first season on SNL:

Bobby Moynihan in The Manuel Ortiz Talk Show

The music is contagious.

Bobby plays Luke's father.

I don't know, it's amusing, and the dancing is funny, but I would have liked more drama between the characters (and a bigger bang) instead of fizzling out down to the water and dancing gags at the end.

Enjoy!

Bobby Monynihan - in Christmas Tree Lot

Each Christmas tree has a story.

It's Christmas Eve! Merry Christmas!

Bobby plays Tommy, who brings the trees to the cars.

I couldn't help but expect Jason and Kristen to do their A-Holes skit where they shop for a Christmas tree.

Enjoy!

Bobby Moynihan in Tizzle Wizzle (SNL Digital Short)

Jammies, pills and knives!

Awesome! This was one of the best digital shorts this year! I laughed harder than any other one this year, and I had to watch it several times.

I also appreciate that this short features all the newer, featured cast members who aren't used as often (or as well): Nasim Pedrad, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, and Abby Elliot.

Enjoy!

Bobby Moynihan - as Liam in A Very Gilly Christmas

Saturday Night Live presents a holiday compilation hosted by the troublesome Gilly.

Starts with a Gilly skit (which includes Bobby Moynihan), then a choir intro with Gilly, and then on with the skits. Gilly doesn't really introduce the skits since she doesn't really talk.

Features Steve Martin introducing his own "Christmas Wish." And Gilly sprinkles rat poison on him.

Enjoy!

Rehearsing the live part of the dance competition sketch (from the Ryan Reynolds episode this season). Bobby, Abby, and Bill as the judges:

And Fred Armisen had this to say about Bobby in that episode...

"Bobby was next to me in [the Family Feud sketch]. He was making me laugh, from the table read all the way to the live show. Something about the way he said "POTholders!"

Bobby Moynihan - behind the scenes of Mystery Men

Bobby Moynihan was in this 2009 film before he started on SNL in late 2008.

This shows a bunch of behind the scenes clips of Mystery Men.

Bobby Moynihan - in New Doorbells

A custom ring for every occasion.

Bobby's on right at the beginning and comes back up to ask for one about cars.

This is Jenny's skit. She got another one for the last episode (she was featured in this one and the Twilight debate). So she's pretty funny here. She was very nervous at first, but she got a little more relaxed as she went and the jokes got funnier as they went. I didn't like it at first, but by the time it ended, I thought it was hysterical.

It's obvious that they're pulling Kristen out more. They have gotten a lot of heat by featuring Kristen too much and now that they have a few different solid female players, they're trying to save Kristen for the big gun sketches and feature her as the lead in a sketch or two rather than put her in 7 sketches like they used to. So she only appeared in Surprise for this episode (and her voice was in the monologue).

Fred Armisen also only appeared in two sketches this week. The big players were Abby Elliott, Kenan, and Jason Sudeikis (each with 5).

Enjoy!

Bobby Moynihan - in PGA Tour

The PGA Tour is working on new strategies.

Bobby comes in near the end of the first two bits and removes the sponsors. (He's not in the third message.)

Finally a new Jenny Slate skit. Amusing character, but not hilarious.

Bobby pretty much is a background character here.

Carter and Sons gets played again!

SNL played Bobby Moynihan's commercial, Cart and Sons, for the second time! This week is the second time the commercial has been played on SNL. SNL often repeats recent commercials when they have time to fill or think that it fits with the right mix in a show. It's the cheapest way to fill time in.

Amy doesn't think Bobby Moynihan needed to be in the JGL monologue

Monologue - Well, best monologue of the season and actually as far as the season goes, we've had some pretty decent monologues. Here, Joseph Gordon-Levitt recreates the classic "Make 'Em Laugh" dance number from Singin' In The Rain. Now, I know some people were like "Boo! It's not as good as Donald O'Connor!" and it wasn't, but what is? But JGL did all of this LIVE and in ONE TAKE. It's a pretty amazing feat & the boy can dance for sure! I know it left me with a big stupid grin and pumped me up for the rest of the show. Only gripe - why was Bobby Moynihan even there? Unnecessary!

People love Bobby Moynihan's Jake the Snake Roberts

ZOË RICE: I thought the 2nd go at this (I guess) recurring sketch was better than the first, but it’s still too much Kenan for me. Al Gore is great, though! I loved watching his expression as he’s hit by the keyboard and then at the end by confetti. Bobby Moynihan’s tap dancing snake-bedecked wrestler made me laugh, and Mindy Kailing’s always refreshing to see. But I still had to fast forward through some of the “What up with that” choruses.

STEVE MURPHY: Oh this just keeps getting better and better. If I could pick any sketch from this season to repeat, it would be this one. Two real and very famous celebrities this time! Even before it started I was excited. Kenan’s best character ever, plus it’s my favorite kind of sketch, where the whole cast ends up on stage in absurd outfits dancing like crazy people. Interrupting Al Gore while he’s talking about the environment is hilarious. Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts? Andy Samberg as the budget clown? Jason Sudeikis breaking it down the whole time in a track suit? Sign me up for this one every time.

Bobby Moynihan gathers skit ideas from Fair City News?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Saturday Night Live recently honored Fair City News by bringing “Catch the Swine Fever” to life in a sketch that aired nationwide on NBC November 7, 2009. The original FCN story posted April 28, 2009 and was picked up by SNL writers who comb the Internet’s best satire websites searching for material.

On Monday, contributing FCN writer John Mello reportedly left a voicemail for FCN founder Chad Harris that said, “I don’t know if you saw it, but they totally stole our story”.

According to Google analytics, writers for NBC’s hit show Saturday Night Live regularly read faircitynews.com to find inspiration for their sketches and entertainment. The original FCN story is listed here, the SNL version here.

“The FCN article was hilarious and really helped to form our sketch ‘Cater ‘N Sons’. The BBQ theme, the advertising message gone bad, the doctor saying it will kill you, everything about it helped make one of the funniest sketches I’ve ever participated in,” said Featured Player Bobby Moynihan, Jr.

SNL creator, Lorne Michaels, said, “Over the last thirty years, SNL has launched the careers of many of the brightest comedy performers of a generation. Since the launch of Fair City News, our show has been recharged. We hope to pay forward the favor by extending contracts to the writers of FCN.”

When asked about concerns over copyright infringement Harris said, “it is a great honor to be recognized as a top tier comedic resource. I saw the sketch and they did a nice job with it, very funny. We encourage the staff at SNL to browse our pages seeking content for use in their program. However, don’t even try to steal our writers without fairly compensating us first.”

SNL regularly lampoons many aspects of contemporary American society, such as politics and popular culture. The program has won 19 Emmy Awards, been honored with the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, cited as “truly a national institution.” and was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame by the National Association of Broadcasters.

So this article was written by FCN, and so it's definitely from their perspective. However, it seems legit.

This hoopla is based on this little article, which isn't overly funny (but it made a funny SNL commercial):

Bobby Moynihan - Joseph Gordon-Levitt's monologue

Monologue

Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Bobby Moynihan

So this monologue isn't in the full episode shown online either. What was it about?

Here's a review:

ZOË RICE: Sigh. I saw Joseph Gordon-Levitt (whose name is too long, so now it’s JGL) on Jimmy Fallon the other night, and I gotta say I didn’t like him. I thought he came across as affected, and what’s with his twinge of fake New York-ish accent? But he mentioned his monologue on the show, said it was his idea, and that he’d been working on it for weeks. But what makes the monologue songs on SNL funny is that the writers rework the lyrics (or write original ones) to be biting and clever. Doing a second-rate version of the great Danny Kaye just didn’t move me. JGL’s jumps at the end were impressive, and I enjoyed watching Bobby Moynihan punch him, but overall this number struck me as JGL indulging in himself.

STEVE MURPHY: Joseph Gordon-Levitt…. talk about a guy who doesn’t have any brand recognition with me. I had no idea who was hosting this show until the kid from 3rd Rock From the Sun walked out on stage. But… hot damn! I mean… that was incredible! He wasn’t specifically funny, but that was a completely legitimate Broadway performance, and I was solidly entertained. Great dancing, solid singing… let’s see those auto-tuned Glee kids do that! Bobby Moynihan was perfect, and actually did make ‘em laugh. I’m loving this kid and this episode so far. Fantastic.

Kristen and Lauren - got a picture with Bobby Moynihan

This comes from our Andy Samberg blog reader and friend, Kristen H:

I flew to NYC for the weekend and was midtown Saturday night so my friend Lauren and I decided to head over to NBC studios around 1 a.m. to try and spot the SNL cast members as they left. Well, they all came out and were extremely friendly. Everyone stopped to sign autographs, take pictures and chat. Joanna Newsom was there and looking lovely. She seemed genuinely surprised when we asked for a photo with her, but we are fans of her music. She was as sweet as can be.

Andy was also friendly, but was distracted and tons of people were calling his name.

Bill Hader was so sweet and very modest; it was obvious that he was happy to be there and happy to talk to his fans.

Jorma and Akiva were also friendly and took pictures and talked with everyone.

And here's Bobby Moynihan!!!

Go behind the scenes in the makeup chair for the Firelight Digital Short.

Bobby Moynihan - is Alfred Hitchcock in Rear Window

Rear Window

The suspense is unbearable.

Grace has a farting problem.

January cracks when Bobby comes in as Hitch at the end and with Jason's last line at the end. I think they might have been improv-ing a bit and catching her off guard, because she never cracked at the big lines and the fart sounds, so she was probably ready for those.

Bobby does pretty good. Horatio Sanz used to play Alfred. I'm glad they're still doing him with Bobby, and Jason's Jimmy Stewart is pretty good.

That's it. Just 2 skits this week for Bobby. At least he got to be Alfred, a prominent character in this skit.

Review of Bobby Moynihan in Swine Fever

STEVE MURPHY: A simple, cute idea. And once again… not terrible. We seem to be surfing just ahead of the mediocre line tonight. So far I am not unhappy… but I haven’t really laughed yet, either.

ZOË RICE: Not bad, not great. Overall that would also be my response to the show as a whole (and Steve, it seems like we’re on the same wavelength here). In 2002, a BBQ joint without foresight advertises you’ll get “swine fever!” by loving their ribs. Cue disclaimers that “swine flu” is a completely different beast–oops.

HOWARD MEGDAL: Well, I laughed quite a bit at this. And Steve, how can you not be happier to see Bobby Moynihan get his own commercial?!?

Finally! We're back on Google Blog Search!

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?q=bobby%20moynihan

So when you search for a topic on the Google Blog Search, then they will first list a Web site at the top if the site is full dedicated to the topic.

So we've got our Andy Samberg one up there:

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?q=andy+samberg

And our Aubrey Plaza blog is up there:

But our Kristen Wiig blog isn't up there yet:

Here's that blog:

So Google, if you're reading this, could you add our Kristen Wiig blog? =^)

=================

Anyway, so what happened was the Live Journal was up there early this year, and then our Bobby blog got added. Then this summer, we took a few months off this blog and basically they took down this blog and the Live Journal site. The Live Journal site dried up, probably in May. So anyway, we're back, and they put the blog back on. We'll be sure to give more steady blog posts so that this doesn't happen again.

Thanks to all our readers!

Jon at Gunaxian thinks so.

Meet Bobby Moynihan, a second year castmate on SNL, the sole reason (besides Megan Fox’s cans on the season premiere) that I tune in.

In includes a comparison to Andy Samberg:

Just like Andy Samberg has done in recent years, this funnyman is going to create memorable characters to carry this show. Yeah, so he looks like Artie Lange and isn’t easy on the eyes, but his skits so far might be just the thing to save this great show. You are going to be hearing a lot of Moynihan in the coming years with two major movies coming out over the next year.

Bobby Moynihan - Biography

Somebody on Wikipedia loves Bobby, because he has a quite a great bio.

Robert "Bobby" Moynihan, Jr. (born January 31, 1977) is an American actor and comedian who is currently a cast member on Saturday Night Live.

Moynihan outside of NBC Studios before his premiere on "Saturday Night Live" in 2008:

Born: January 31, 1977 (1977-01-31) (age 32), Eastchester, New York

Occupation: Actor, Writer, Comedian

In summer 2008, Moynihan had a supporting role in the popular web-series The Line, an online video project funded by Lorne Michaels' production company, directed by SNL head writer Seth Meyers, and starring SNL cast members Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis. He is a regular improv/sketch comedian at New York City's Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and on many Sunday nights he can be found improvising with fellow SNL alumni in the theater's long-running hit improv show ASSSSCAT 3000. In addition, Bobby also frequently performs along with other UCB regulars in the Derrick Comedy sketch group and appeared in several of their popular internet videos and various projects, most recently Moynihan filmed a supporting role in the group's feature film Mystery Team, which premiered at Sundance in 2009. Prior to joining SNL he was a sketch regular on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and a contributing writer on MTV's Human Giant, and in years past, he often submitted scripts to SNL with his comedy partner Charlie Sanders. Moynihan has also acted in a number of comedy shorts for the website collegehumor.com, including their recent web-series Every Week on Entourage where he plays "Turtle" from Entourage.

During the summer of 2008, Moynihan gained a bit of recognition when he was featured in a national television ad campaign for ESPN Radio with Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay. In the summer of 2009, Moynihan starred in the music video for Colbie Caillat's single, "Fallin' For You".

Notes from the editor: This information is key, because while Bobby had a great resume up to this point (a career in Web comedies, submitting scripts to SNL, appearing on Conan, writing for Human Giant, and performing at the UCB theater in almost half a dozen different groups), it was really this "The Line" gig that got him in at SNL. That's where he met Lorne, Seth, Bill, and Jason.

View "The Line" here:

============================

Recurring Characters on SNL

1. Mark Payne, a ghetto-acting white waiter who works at Pizzeria Uno. Wears a black dew-rag and a black and blue button-down T-shirt featuring Sagara Sanosuke from the anime Rurouni Kenshin and always complains about inconsequential things around the pizzeria (the smell of pepper on the first sketch on the episode hosted by Michael Phelps; how sticky the bar counter is in the second sketch on the episode hosted by Tim McGraw). In the first sketch, Mark had a child that he left on a bus and didn't realize it until the end of the sketch. The child was never mentioned in the second sketch. Moynihan has said in interviews that the character is a tribute to his days of working as a bartender for almost 10 years.

2. Vinny Vedecci Jr, the son of Bill Hader's Italian talk show host, Vinny Vedecci. Wears a black and white child's sailor suit. Always wants to asks celebrities ridiculous questions, but the celebrities can't understand his broken English, which makes him cry (until Vinny gives his son a cigarette and a drink of wine).

3. Liam, one of the kids' in Gilly's (played by Kristen Wiig) elementary school class. It is often implied that he hates his stepfather.

4. Obnoxious Microphone Guy, a very annoying man who attends parties and other events, will at some point steal the microphone from the emcee (usually played by Jason Sudeikis) and obnoxiously scream "WHAAAAAAAAAT!" into the mic before dropping it on the floor.

Notes from the EDitor:

Okay, this is a problem. Bobby has been featured on the show for two years now, and he needs to break out with more characters. All these characters above are hilarious, but Liam is in Kristen's Gilly skit, Vinny Jr. is in Bill's Vinny skit, Microphone Guy only has one line per skit, and Mark Payne has only been done twice.

Bobby as Vinny Jr:

Bobby as Obnoxious Guy:
Whaaaaat???

Bobby as Mark Payne:

Bobby needs new characters stat! He had a great "Simply Victor" retarded character he did before SNL. If Kristen can do a retarded and deformed character, then Bobby should be able to do that one. Plus Bobby needs to talk to the other players and come up with duo or trio skits. In the last popular age of SNL (when Will Ferrell was leading the cast), they all had a ton of duo skits going on. Bobby needs to help bring that back!

Bobby as Simply Victor:
Simply Victor

====================

Celebrity Impersonations on SNL

David Crosby
Guy Fieri
Barney Frank (in the "Barack Obama Variety Show" sketch; Barney Frank is usually played by Fred Armisen but Armisen had to portray Obama for the sketch).
Garfield the cat
Gonzo the Great
Peter King
Nathan Lane
Mr. Mistoffelees (from Cats on Broadway)
Wayne Osmond
Richard Shelby
Snagglepuss
Rich Sommer (as Harry Crane on Mad Men)

Notes from the EDitor:

This is good. I think this was a strong contributing factor to keeping Bobby on: his impressions. And I think he knows this, because he didn't do many impressions before SNL (so he's upped his game in this area). His Garfield and Gonzo are a bit weak, and he only did them because Andy Samberg paved the way with his Cathy and Swedish Chef (both turned into larger ensemble skits).

Whoever wrote this was probably thinking whether or not Bobby's Optimus Prime impression should be included. =^)

Bobby as Optimus Prime:
Optimus Prime

And they definitely should have mentioned his spot-on impression of Lenny from Of Mice and Men:
Of Mice and Men

They also didn't mention his impression of Turtle from Entourage (January 09; Neil Patrick Harris monologue), which got him the job playing Turtle in College Humor's Entourage spoof.

Bobby's Mr. Mistoffelees and Snagglepuss are so good that he should be pitching skits that center around those characters. I could see Mr. Mistoffelees in a story skit and Snagglepuss hosting his own show where he interviews other cartoon characters (and maybe makes advances on them because he's gay).

Bobby as Mr. Mistoffelees:
Cats

Bobby as Snagglepuss:
Snagglepuss

I also see his strength in his Nathan Lane and Guy Fieri impressions. Either one of those could also be the center point of a show where the character hosts a show (this is a no-brainer for the Guy Fieri impression, since he already hosts a show). Also, I think Bobby Moynihan could take his Guy Fieri impression up a notch and do some disgusting food jokes. For example, instead of pouring gravy on a plate (as he did once), he could pour it on his head and in his mouth.

Bobby as Nathan Lane:
Nathan Lane (So you committed...)

Bobby as Guy Fieri:
Guy Fieri (Obama Cold Open)
Guy Fieri (Cooking Al Fresco)

Bobby Moynihan - In The Line

In summer 2008, Moynihan had a supporting role in the popular web-series The Line, an online video project funded by Lorne Michaels' production company, directed by SNL head writer Seth Meyers, and starring SNL cast members Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis.

Bobby plays one of the Telepathic Triplets of Cybar. This helped him get to know the SNL cast before he got his audition on SNL. It makes sense, because Bobby had a huge Web short resume at this point.

This role was key for Bobby Moynihan getting onto SNL.

EPISODE 1: 1st in Line

Josh is first in line for the long awaited final chapter of FutureSpace! Only 11 days early! With Duffy hanging with him the wait should be simple. No one expects the Telepathic Triplets of Cybar whose mission is to be first in line at all costs.

EPISODE 2: 5-Minute Rule

Trapped by the 5 minute rule! Josh finds that somethings have changed since his college days. Lacking food & soap Josh's girlfriend shows up with a unwelcome surprise - her old college study partner!

Bill Hader's ex-girlfriend is played by Liz Cackowski, who is Akiva Schaffer's girlfriend.

EPISODE 3: The Spoiler

There's crazy, and then there's "line crazy." Josh runs out for water, Duffy channels his animal instincts, and "The Spoiler" rears his ugly head. It's a dangerous day to be a delivery man, and it's a hard day in: "THE LINE."

EPISODE 4: Quality Time

Can you be a good father in 5 minute or less? It's Duffy's ultimate test, juggling quality time with his son and devotion to the line. It's madness but someone's got to do it.

EPISODE 5: Trivia Takedown

Bill Hadar (Pineapple Express, Saturday Night Live, Superbad) & Joe Lo Truglio put everything on the line when Bill pits his trivia knowledge against the mysterious stranger (Jon Glaser). Can they keep 1st place or will they be shoved to the back of the line.

EPISODE 6: Fight 4 Your Right

The Spoiler returns with even deadlier information. Nerdier than his first appearance. It's a sequel not to be missed. Who will stand up to save the day?

EPISODE 7: Premiere

SEASON FINALE: 11 days of madness for Josh and 1 giant win for dorks. But, Josh has the most difficult test he has ever faced before him. How strong is his need to see FutureSpace?

Bobby Moynihan - is Turtle in Every Week on Entourage

Bobby Moynihan has acted in a number of comedy shorts for the website collegehumor.com, including their recent web-video Every Week on Entourage where he plays "Turtle" from Entourage.

So many twists and turns you'll forget they've been using the same formula for five seasons.

On YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0CdAKrTZ0A

Or watch it here:

They probably thought of Bobby to play Turtle because they saw him play Turtle in the Neil Patrick Harris episode in January 09 (the College Humor Entourage spoofs came in July 09.

Here is the Neil Patrick Harris monologue where Bobby plays Turtle:

http://bobbymoynihan.blogspot.com/2009/01/bobby-moynihan-is-turtle-from-entourage.html

While Bobby's movie roles are few and far between, he continues to appear in Web videos until he gets more TV and movie roles.

Zoe doesn't love Bobby Moynihan (300 review)

ZOË RICE: I appreciate the concept that before sending his men to battle, Sparta’s King Leonidas must grapple with his “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. But in execution, most of the laughs are a bit too one-note. Still, cod pieces can be funny. I’ve been perplexed by Howard and Steve’s enthusiasm for Bobby Moynihan, and again in this skit he doesn’t really do it for me. Though I don’t hate him, I’ve never yet loved him. But I continue to enjoy Gerard Butler as host.

STEVE MURPHY: Moderately funny in parts. Leonidas’ slow realization that his entire army is gay ended up making me laugh a couple times, but really it was Bobby Moynihan’s halter-top armor and completely exposed belly that was the high point of this sketch for me. That guy’s a star, Zoe, you’ll see!

HOWARD MEGDAL: It’s all about the material he’s given. This skit was a bit heavy-handed, but entertaining enough.

From:
http://perpetualpost.com/?p=3151

=======================

I have to agree with Howard and Steve. Bobby did have the highlight of that boring skit which seemed to be more about making fun of the homosexuality in the military news story than about actual humor.

They could have done so much more with a 300 skit. So kudos to Bobby for being the highlight of the skit.

Bobby Moynihan's Doogie Howser pic

This pic is just too funny. Bobby is so goofy! Had to share it!

It's from:

Doogie Howser Theme - January 10, 2009

Neil Patrick Harris and the entire [SNL] cast perform the theme to Doogie Howser, M.D.. While Harris wears a tuxedo, the SNL cast dresses as Doogie Howser, wearing lab coats, a picture ID of Doogie, dress shirts, blond wigs, colorful ties, acid washed jeans, and Nike hi-tops (Armisen and Samberg wear green sunglasses as well). Harris plays keyboard; Wilson, Abby Elliott, and Michaela Watkins play violin; Bobby Moynihan plays tuba; Thompson plays harp; Hader plays saxophone; Hammond plays trumpet; Wiig plays electric guitar; Sudeikis plays double bass; Forte plays drum kit; Armisen plays synthesizer; and Samberg plays an Akai MPC 2000XL drum machine. At the end of the performance, Harris sheds a tear.

Bobby Moynihan - is a caller, Josh (Game Time with Randy and Greg)

SNL 10/17/09 - Gerard Butler and Shakira

Show: Game Time With Randy And Greg

Greg is not an alien.

Gerard Butler ... Cal Saslow
Bill Hader ... Greg
Seth Meyers ... Brad, caller (voice)
Bobby Moynihan ... Josh, caller (voice)
Jason Sudeikis ... Eddie, caller (voice)
Kenan Thompson ... Randy Dukes

Greg still isn't an alien. Hehehehehe. This is their second round of this skit. Definitely funny enough to bring back.

Bobby plays Josh and says, "What planet are they from, Greg's? ... should we be ready for somethin?"

Commercial: Daveheart

Meet Braveheart's significantly less brave brother, Dave.

Gerard Butler ... Dave
Will Forte ... warrior
Bill Hader ... warrior
Bobby Moynihan ... warrior
Jenny Slate ... maiden
Jason Sudeikis ... warrior

Bobby plays his third and final warrior character of the episode.

Bobby pipes up as a Scotish warrior. Dave's a coward. Not terribly funny.

The men of Sparta are pretty close.

Gerard Butler ... King Leonidas
Fred Armisen ... warrior
Will Forte ... Astinos
Bill Hader ... Stefanos
Bobby Moynihan ... warrior
Jason Sudeikis ... Stelios

Yeah, apparently this is a send-up of Obama and gay rights in the military. Bobby makes fun of his figure openly here.

Bobby Moynihan - is Cogsworth (Beauty and the Beast)

Sketch: Beauty and the Beast

Beastly is in the eye of the beholder.

Gerard Butler ... Beast
Bill Hader ... Lumiere
Bobby Moynihan ... Cogsworth
Jenny Slate ... Mrs. Potts
Kristen Wiig ... Belle

Bobby is Cogsworth!!! Hahahaha. Only Bobby could pull that one off.

David liked Bobby's Al Fresco skit (SNL review)

With very little that's positive to say about the show, David's review of the Bobby, Andy, and Drew skit came through as a light in the darkness...

The “Cooking Al Fresco” thing with Samberg and Barrymore doing a cooking show on the roof seemed at first like a reason for Bobby Moynihan to dust off his Guy Fieri, which, like most of his performances, involves him mugging like crazy and shouting at the camera. But the evolving bit with the birds dive-bombing the chefs, then daintily eating the food, then devouring Fieri and dropping his skeletal corpse, worked for me because the joke actually changed each time...

Howard agrees that Bobby Moynihan is a star (review of the Vinny skit)

Check out this review of Bobby Moynihan's Vinny sketch last week with Drew Barrymore...

ZOË RICE: Ugh, Bill Heder’s Italian RAI rivista is one of my least favorite recurring sketches. When is there ever anything fresh in this skit? Bill Hader does an over-the-top Italian accent, and the hosts are rarely showcased in any funny or provocative way. Add in Drew Barrymore sucking even at playing herself, and I was itching for the fast forward button.

STEVE MURPHY: Another of my favorite recurring sketches! I don’t care that it always starts with the same “I don’t speak Italian,” joke and the guys eating spaghetti. I laugh every single time. But this one fell a little flat, thanks to Drew’s lack of believability and a general lack of innovation. This sketch needs a little less formula, a fresh new joke every now and again would really spice it up. That’s three weak sketches in a row… not good.

HOWARD MEGDAL: But I’m always happy to spend time listening to Bill Hader. No argument here on the sketch, though I also love Bobby Moynihan as his son. Steve is right; Moynihan is a star.

“It was so much fun,” Caillat said. “I wanted to show a different side. Usually when I do performances or interviews, I’m more reserved and quiet. When I’m with my friends and people I work with, they see the funny, silly side of me.”

Did Bobby write Andy Samberg's Shep skit?

Andy Samberg plays Shep, a University of Connecticut senior.

The latest "Saturday Night Live" character is a senior from the University of Connecticut.

As portrayed by Andy Samberg, the goofy looking UConn student named Shep has big plastic rimmed glasses with thick lenses, braces on his teeth, Spider-man on his T-shirt and not a lot of sexual experience. That was the basis of the sketch between Shep and Seth Myers on "SNL Weekend Update Thursday" about his being the only one in his dorm to miss getting swine flu, mainly because nobody has been in contact with him.

No reason why it was the UConn that was cited as his school. At this point it's never clear whether it's a homage to a specific person or just a random detail. One of the newer members of the ensemble, Bobby Moynihan, however, is a UConn grad, so maybe he had a hand in assigning a school for the holder of the Loopner legacy.

Either way, it's another feather in the cap of a place that regularly pops up on lists of top party schools.

Ryan Reynolds ... Donny Osmond
Fred Armisen ... The other Osmond
Abby Elliott ... Marie Osmond
Bill Hader ... Announcer (voice)
Bill Hader ... John Phillips
Bobby Moynihan ... Wayne Osmond
Nasim Pedrad ... Genevieve Phillips
Andy Samberg ... Jeff Sessler
Jason Sudeikis ... Richard Dawson
Kristen Wiig ... Mackenzie Phillips

Good contrast between the two families. Abby knocks out a great Marie Osmond (not to mention Ryan's fantastic Donny Osmond).

Bobby Moynihan - SNL Statistics, 10/03/09 - Ryan Reynolds & Lady Gaga

Appearance Statistics:

Ryan Reynolds 7
Fred Armisen 6
Andy Samberg 6
Kristen Wiig 6
Lady Gaga 4
Bill Hader 4
Nasim Pedrad 4
Jason Sudeikis 4
Kenan Thompson 4
Bobby Moynihan 3
Jenny Slate 2
Abby Elliott 2
Will Forte 1
Seth Meyers 1
Lorne Michaels 1
Bryan Tucker 1
Scarlett Johansson 1
Madonna 1
Darrell Hammond 1
Elijah Wood 1

Overall, this was not a good night for Jenny Slate and Will Forte.

Nasim Pedrad did a great job as Mrs. Ahmadinejad and filled in some needed roles.

I would say the same about Abby Elliott, but as Marie Osmond and Nancy Grace, she had a memorable evening.

Likewise, Bobby Moynihan had a solid performance in the digital short and a stellar Nathan Lane. So for only two sketches, he made them count.

Bobby Moynihan - Tries to give Andy Samberg an energy drink (Digital Short: On The Ground)

SNL 10/03/09 - Ryan Reynolds & Lady Gaga

Digital Short: On The Ground

Alternate Title: "I'm An Adult"

Andy throws things on the ground and meets a shocking end.

Ryan Reynolds ... Himself
Elijah Wood ... Himself
Bobby Moynihan ... Salesman
Andy Samberg ... Singer
Jenny Slate ... Girlfriend
Bryan Tucker ... Salesman

Musically, the song sounds like "Like a Boss." However, this is an original piece that is unique and hilarious. They are constantly taking you in a new direction with the same "ground" gag. This is also a great use of Ryan Reynolds (and Elijah Wood) to get him involved in a digital short song in a humorous way. Elijah's expression when they're tasing Andy is HILARIOUS!!!

Also, Bryan Tucker (an SNL writer) appears as the hot dog man. Bryan is known for playing Roy in "Roy Rules." Good to see Jenny Slate in an SNL Digital Short (she knows what's up), and Bobby Moynihan also has a strong role (as the energy drink guy).

Bobby Moynihan pulls out a memorable appearance as the energy drink salesman.

Bobby Moynihan - Is Nathan Lane (So You Committed A Crime...)

SNL 10/03/09 - Ryan Reynolds & Lady Gaga

TV Show: So You Committed A Crime & You Think You Can Dance

This new show has a built-in jailhouse audience.

Ryan Reynolds ... Dixon Carrothers
Fred Armisen ... Owen Schecter
Abby Elliott ... Nancy Grace
Will Forte ... Joseph Corey Wayne
Bill Hader ... Phil Spector
Bobby Moynihan ... Nathan Lane
Nasim Pedrad ... Lea
Andy Samberg ... Kevin Federline
Jenny Slate ... Rebecca
Jason Sudeikis ... Sergeant Tim Grasser
Kenan Thompson ... Mike Potts
Kristen Wiig ... Cassie

Andy gets to host a show as the now fat Kevin Federline!

Literally every cast member was in this skit! Great combination of a live skit with video footage.

Bobby Moynihan knocked his Nathan Lane out of the park! The boy has pipes. We need a Nathan Lane show! At least bring Nathan Lane to Weekend Update to see if we like him enough (he just got lost here in all of this)! Plus Abby Elliott pulled out a fantastic Nancy Grace.

Enjoy!

Bobby Moynihan - Freaks out cuz the plane's about to crash (Flight Attendants)

Flight Attendants

Summary: Flight attendants (Kristen Wiig, Megan Fox) are unnaturally upbeat and bubbly while announcing devastating news from the cabin.

Megan Fox ... Carla, flight attendant
Kristen Wiig ... flight attendant
Andy Samberg ... passenger from Hawaii
Abby Elliott ... passenger; Andy's girl
Bill Hader ... pilot (voice)
John Lutz ... passenger
Bobby Moynihan ... passenger
Nasim Pedrad ... passenger
Jenny Slate ... passenger

Andy and Abby play the main straight characters here. Not a good use of Bobby.

Look for appearances from newcomers Nasim and Jenny in the front row (you really only see them in the final shot). Kevin Lutz and Emily Spivey appear at the bottom of the wide shot. They are SNL staff writers.

Kevin Lutz appears in the Flight Attendant sketch (wearing glasses at the bottom of the shot of all the passengers). Kevin is an SNL writer (since 2004) and he's an actor on 30 Rock. This is Kevin's 16th appearance on SNL in a bit role.

Emily Spivey is a writer on SNL since 2001, and she's appeared as an audience member and in other bit roles 4 times now. Emily is sitting next to Kevin on the bottom of the wide shot.
